Job Title: Physician Assistant- Hospital Support

SUMMARY: Responsible for practicing medicine with physician supervision including conducting examinations and writing prescriptions. Within physician-physician assistant (PA) relationship, PAs exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. This position will provide hospital clinical and administrative support as well as manage the surgery center on behalf of Orthopedic Associates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Examines patients, obtains medical histories, and assesses health status.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests.
- Prescribes medications, and treats illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
- Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA's scope of work.
- Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
- Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
- Coordinates appropriate specialty referrals.
- Counsels patient/family on preventive health care.
- Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports.
- Documents patient information and care in medical record.
- Maintains department statistical database for research purposes.
- Out of state and overnight travel may be required for training and educational purposes.
- Availability for "on-call" status evenings, nights and weekends required.
- Prescribes medications, and treats illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
- Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA's scope of work.

Clinical Hospital Support: - Admitted Surgical Patients (inpatient and outpatient)
- Surgical assist
- Rounding on patients
- Discharge Process
- Inpatient- coordination with discharge planning of hospital including social services, if necessary, rehabilitation requisitions, take home prescription order
- Outpatient- discharge process (Ex: Orders), rehabilitation requisitions, take home prescription order
- Admitted Non-Orthopedic Associates Patients
- Consult Service
- Primary Person
- Coordinate with Orthopedic Associates physician when necessary
Administrative Support
a. Handle all the administrative support requisitions for the physician
b. Review and adhere to the hospital medical staff guidelines on scope of responsibility as physician assistant
Competencies: - Knowledge of medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiar with medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
- Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
- Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems and developing care plans.
- Knowledge of medical records documentation in confidential manner.
- Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data.
- Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referral.
- Skill in developing/revising patient care plan based on patient status.

Travel: - This position may require travel to all Orthopedic Associates of SW Ohio locations, including satellite offices. May require travel to other locations as business needs arise.
Required Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program.
Work Authorization - Must be able to provide required documentation stating that the employee is legal to work in the United States.
