Position: Ultrasound Technologist Health Care Professional (HCP)
Location: Ft. Irwin - Weed Army Community Hospital (WACH) Department of Radiology Department
Salary range: $103K Qualifications and Requirements: Must have completed two to four years of training in an accredited Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Program. Must be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and have a minimum of four years experience for each area of specialty (e.g., abdomen, breast, fetal echocardiography, neurosonology, and
obstetrics and gynecology . Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. BLS training will be provided at MTF through an agency of their choosing. BLS recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times.
Must have sufficient skills, knowledge, and experience to perform the specific tasks: - The HCP shall provide complete ultrasound service in full support of the Radiology Department. Conducts duties by Weed Army Community Hospital (WACH) Department of Radiology Department and TRICARE policies and procedures. Reports directly to the DC, Radiology, and/or NCOIC. The quality of ultrasound service shall meet or exceed reasonable standards of professional practice as determined by the same authority that governs military radiologic service professionals in the same discipline.
- Ultrasound personnel shall perform sonographic studies for physicians to diagnose and treat a wide variety of defects and diseases. Studies shall be performed by the guidelines of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the American College of Radiology (ACR). The accuracy and clarity of the studies will directly affect the accuracy and reliability of the physician's diagnosis and the treatment rendered to the patient.
- Shall perform routine and emergent diagnostic sonography, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologist, superficial, venous, neural, and miscellaneous studies.
- Ensure proper infection control and sterilization techniques before, during, and after each patient and attend infection control meetings when applicable.
- Will ensure exams are completed correctly in IMPAX proper start and finishing times are annotated in MHS Genesis, each exam is completed, submitted (set to a "new" status to include documentation), and QCd with performing techs initials. A Radiologist will interpret the resulting imaging studies at WACH. HCP is responsible for notifying Radiologist of significant findings or findings requiring immediate attention; advising Radiologist on preliminary findings of the examination; ensuring ordering Physician is made aware of any significant findings or findings requiring immediate attention when Radiologist is absent; and sending exams to tele radiology services as applicable.
- Shall receive patients, use MTF standard 2-step verification, and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate the fear of examinations. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
- Shall identify abnormalities during the exam and determine the need for additional scans of the affected area. Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned. In addition, the healthcare worker shall possess a detailed understanding of fetal anatomy to accomplish effective ultrasound scanning. Recognize anatomic changes created by medical and surgical areas to accomplish effective ultrasound scanning.
- Shall correlate the patient's clinical history with the requested examination to be performed and obtain the results from previous pertinent diagnostic tests to correlate with the ultrasound study. Furthermore, the HCP will protocol examinations to ensure proper exams are performed before scanning patients.
- Shall consult with staff physicians from various specialties, such as obstetrics, gynecology, medicine, and surgery, regarding the patient's pertinent past medical history, preliminary diagnosis, and condition so it correlates with the examination.
- Shall select, set up, adjust, and operate ultrasound equipment, including the Trophon machine. Conducts examination, adjusting technique and equipment to present best the medically significant aspects found. If unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered, extend and modify the procedure to ensure full and accurate information regarding findings and patient conditions.
- Shall assist in performing invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, nephrostomes, etc. Use the scanner to position probes and other equipment properly, fix point of entry, determine depth and direction of penetration and location within the body, locate disease sites, identify the position and functioning or response of organs, etc. Advise of any problems, conditions, or anomalies found during or as a result of the procedure.
- Shall maintain and clean ultrasound equipment on a regular basis and ensure proper Trophon sterilization techniques in accordance with the manufacturer and within MTF standards.
- shall complete all MTF training and education before the first scheduled duty day and participate in quarterly and annual training.

Background Qualifications: - Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: must either be a U.S. citizen, or as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, either a 22 noncitizen national of the United States, lawful permanent resident of the United States, or alien authorized to work in the United States.
- Clinical Competency: shall be required to demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years in the required clinical discipline as specified in the job requirements.

- Degree/Education: Must have a minimum of four years experience in Ultrasonography. Training should include the following specialties: abdomen, fetal, obstetrics, and gynecology.
- Board Certification: Must be certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Licensure/certification/registration: must be current to include the date granted, expiration date, and confirmation that the licensure/certification/registration is in good standing. Should be required to meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements as determined by the provider's State of licensure, whichever is more stringent.
