Position Summary:

As a Physical Therapist, you will deliver patient care through assessment, selecting, and applying appropriate treatments to enhance or restore function. You will collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner and engage in community education as well as the clinical training of students. Cross-site coverage may also be required.

Education/Certification:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with a minimum of a B.S.
  • Current Connecticut license in Physical Therapy is mandatory.

Competencies:

  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in using Windows-based programs necessary for department functions.
  • Basic keyboarding skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities are preferred.
  • Reliable transportation to facilitate travel between multiple worksites as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate patients following departmental standards.
  2. Modify evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical status to set personalized, measurable goals.
  3. Administer appropriate therapeutic exercises to improve strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.
  4. Use physical modalities and manual therapeutic techniques to relieve pain and achieve set goals.
  5. Implement effective methods to normalize motor activity and enhance learning.
  6. Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and functional activities to maximize independence.
  7. Assess when patients have realized maximum treatment benefits and recommend discharge when suitable.
  8. Document care in accordance with insurance guidelines and departmental policies.
  9. Foster clear communication with referring physicians and interdepartmental staff regarding patient care.
  10. Accurately complete and submit charges daily.
  11. Adhere to the APTA professional code of ethics and facility standards at all times.
  12. Practice proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries.
  13. Supervise a minimum of one affiliated student per year.
  14. Attend continuing education courses to enhance treatment techniques.
  15. Participate in departmental or community educational in-services as documented.
