POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Physical Therapist, you will evaluate patients' conditions and design tailored treatment plans to enhance their functionality and recovery. You will also engage in community education and clinical supervision of students, with possible responsibilities for cross-site coverage.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current licensure in Physical Therapy in Connecticut is required.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based applications and basic computer skills are necessary.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet searches is desirable.
  • Reliable transportation is needed for travel between multiple work sites as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct patient evaluations according to departmental standards.
  2. Adapt assessments based on patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical conditions; set measurable, individualized treatment goals.
  3. Implement appropriate therapeutic exercises to enhance strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.
  4. Apply physical agents and manual techniques to relieve pain and achieve treatment goals.
  5. Utilize effective methods to facilitate normal motor function and learning.
  6. Provide education for patients and families on home exercise routines and functional activities to promote independence.
  7. Assess when patients have reached optimal treatment benefit and recommend discharge as appropriate.
  8. Maintain accurate documentation that adheres to insurance guidelines and departmental policies.
  9. Foster communication with other departments and the referring physician regarding patient progress.
  10. Complete daily charge submissions accurately and consistently.
  11. Adhere to the APTA professional code of ethics and facility policies at all times.
  12. Utilize correct body mechanics and safety protocols to avoid injuries.
  13. Supervise a minimum of one affiliated student per year.
  14. Engage in continuing education to enhance your treatment skills.
  15. Participate in at least one departmental or community in-service yearly.
