Location: South of Richmond, VA
Dates: Starting February 2025, one week per month - anticipated to be ongoing throughout 2025
Position Overview:
Seeking a Board-Certified General Surgeon for locum coverage starting February 2025, with ongoing opportunities. This role is required due to a shortage within the department. The ideal candidate will provide surgical services, perform trauma surgeries, and manage a range of general surgery procedures in a hospital-based setting. The medical center is a Trauma Level III facility, with a robust surgical team.
Practice Setting:
- Hospital-Based
- Hours: 24 hour shifts (looking for minimum 5 shifts/month)
- Documentation System/EMR: EPIC
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of general surgery procedures, including but not limited to:
- Trauma Surgery
- Aneurysm repairs
- Cholecystectomy
- Nissen Fundoplication
- Hernioplasty
- Upper, Lower, Sigmoidoscopy & Colonoscopy
- Laser procedures, Chest Wall/Pleural Procedures, Chest Tube Insertions
- Central Line Insertion, PA Catheter Placement, Ventilation Management
- AV Shunt Placement, Abdominal, Peripheral, Vascular Access Devices
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including ER physicians and trauma specialists.
- Provide high-quality care to an adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population.
- Operate in one of 9 operating rooms and manage trauma cases coming from the ER.
Required Qualifications:
- Board-Certified in General Surgery (ABOS or AOBOS)
- Active Virginia Medical License (No exceptions, must be currently active)
- BLS and ACLS Certification (Required)
