Job Description

Summary:

Our client is searching for a Scientist I/II for their Synthetic Biology Team.

The synthetic biology team is a R&D task force for biotech and pharmaceutical clients across a wide variety of disease indications and therapeutic modalities in the cell and gene therapy space. The organization uses DNA, RNA, and protein engineering paired with massively parallel screening to create technologies that enhance the performance, precision, and safety of cell, gene, and nucleic acid therapies.

The organization is looking for a scientist to join their synthetic biology team to design and execute research programs, develop technologies for our external partners, and expand their SynBio platform. The scientist will collaborate with bioinformatics team to design and screen genetic elements (such as promoters, RNA elements, or protein coding sequences) for improved function in primary human cells and immortalized cell lines.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead execution of synthetic biology projects including budgeting, resourcing etc.
  • Design, troubleshoot, and optimize new assays and protocols for a variety of cell types to measure expression, function and/or cell phenotypes
  • Train RA's to execute project goals
  • Design constructs containing synthetic genetic elements
  • Clone libraries of variants for high throughput screening
  • Stay up to date on literature relevant to project focus
  • Analyze and record data and provide advice on project future directions

Required Qualifications:

For the Scientist 1 role:

  • PhD, Master’s or B.S. in Biology, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Chemical/Biological Engineering, or related field
  • 0-2 (PhD)/5+(Master’s)/7+(B.S.) years of relevant industry experience

For the Scientist Scientist 2 role:

  • PhD, Master’s or B.S. in Biology, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Chemical/Biological Engineering, or related field
  • 2-5 (PhD)/7+(Master’s)/10+(B.S.) years of relevant industry experience

Required Qualifications: Technical Skills

  • Mammalian cell assays including multicolor flow cytometry & data analysis via FlowJo, ELISA or Luminex, and qPCR
  • Mammalian cell culture including experience culturing primary human cells and transfecting/transducing multiple types of cells
  • Molecular Biology (experience cloning libraries and NGS prep preferred)
  • Design of DNA constructs containing synthetic genetic elements (promoters, RNA functional elements, and/or protein coding sequences)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lentiviral production (transfection, harvest/purification, titering)
  • Expertise in immunology, cell therapy, and/or gene therapy
  • Fluency with GraphPad Prism and Snapgene
  • Skilled at working with external vendors to acquire needed resources
  • High throughput screening and/or directed evolution
  • Skillful communication demonstrated through publications or awards for presentations, posters, or grants
