Scope
The Manager of Innovation will lead a collaborative team culture, driving performance and professional growth. With a strong background in people management within manufacturing or the food industry, this hands-on role focuses on developing and implementing innovative products, processes, and technologies. The manager will work closely with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure the organization stays ahead of industry trends and technological advancements.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of professionals, fostering an inclusive and innovative work environment. Set performance expectations, provide feedback, and partner with HR to recruit and retain top talent.
- New Product Development & Commercialization: Oversee the end-to-end process from ideation to commercialization, ensuring successful product launches in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Stay informed on market trends to identify opportunities.
- Formulation & Recipe Optimization: Develop and refine recipes for new and existing products, ensuring quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance. Manage BOMs in Sage and improve nutritional profiles.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate and implement technologies to enhance manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and sustainability. Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to integrate innovations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, marketing, supply chain, and other departments to align innovation efforts with business goals. Build external collaborations with suppliers and research institutions.
- Project Management: Oversee multiple projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery using best practices. Maintain departmental SOPs and track key performance indicators.
- Team Leadership: Serve as department lead in the absence of senior leadership, mentoring junior staff and promoting a culture of creativity and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in food product development and formulation.
- Proven leadership and people management experience in food manufacturing or a related industry.
- Expertise in food science, ingredient functionality, and food processing.
- Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Experience with sensory evaluation and familiarity with food safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
