Overview :
Our client, a well-established law firm in Melville, NY, is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join their growing plaintiffs’ personal injury practice. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in personal injury law, representing plaintiffs in various cases such as motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, and other injury-related claims. Key Responsibilities :
- Case Management : Manage a diverse caseload of personal injury cases from inception to resolution, including investigations, discovery, pre-trial motions, and trial preparation.
- Client Interaction : Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and guidance throughout the litigation process. Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Litigation & Trial Preparation : Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses. Attend depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials. Prepare and argue motions in both state and federal courts.
- Settlement Negotiation : Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients, ensuring fair compensation and representing their best interests in all settlement discussions.
- Research & Legal Writing : Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda, briefs, and other documents in support of case strategies. Stay up-to-date on legal precedents and evolving personal injury laws.
- Collaboration : Work closely with senior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to develop case strategies and provide mentorship to junior associates or interns.
- Court Appearances : Represent clients in court for motion hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials. Prepare clients and witnesses for testimony.
- Documentation & Record Keeping : Maintain thorough and organized case files, documentation, and billing records to ensure compliance with firm policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications :
- Experience : Minimum of 4 years of experience in plaintiffs’ personal injury law. Proven track record of handling personal injury cases, including significant experience in trial preparation and settlement negotiations.
- Legal Knowledge : Strong knowledge of New York State personal injury law, including tort law, insurance law, and the civil litigation process. Experience with complex injury claims is a plus.
- Litigation Skills : Strong litigation skills with experience in discovery, depositions, motion practice, and court appearances. Trial experience is highly preferred.
- Communication : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of clients in court and in negotiations.
- Client Service : Strong client-service orientation with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients in a clear, empathetic manner.
- Education : J.D. from an accredited law school. Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
