Salary Rate: $120,000 /year

Project Location: Washington, DC

Job Type: Full-time


We are seeking a motivated Architectural Master Planner with a degree in Architecture and experience in Museum Master Planning to join our team on a Smithsonian Project in Washington, DC . Candidates will act as Master Planner as well as collaborate and assist Smithsonian client staff to provide conceptual drawings, and data, and generate reports, as a representative for the client on multiple projects.


Responsibilities:

The Master Planner will be a part of a team of professionals and act as the Owner's Representative role on these programs from planning through design. The Master Planner will be required to learn and integrate our company's best practices related to project delivery, budget, schedule, quality, and operations in the museum environment. The Master Planner will act as an advisor/liaison with the client (user groups, planning, design team, contractors, and facility engineering representatives). A summary of the major tasks is outlined below.


  • Technical Coordination: Collaborating with engineers, landscape architects, and other consultants to ensure the master plan is technically feasible and integrated.
  • Presentation and Communication: Presenting design concepts to clients and stakeholders through compelling visual aids, reports, and presentations.
  • Detailed Design Development: Refining the master plan with detailed drawings, including site plans, building elevations, section cuts, and phasing diagrams.
  • Feasibility Studies: Assessing project feasibility based on budget constraints, regulatory requirements, and market analysis.
  • Urban Design Integration: Incorporating urban design principles into the master plan, considering pedestrian flow, connectivity, public spaces, and viewsheds.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitating meetings with clients, community groups, and other relevant stakeholders to gather and address concerns through the planning process.
  • Conceptual Design Development: Creating initial design concepts for the master plan, considering factors like building massing, circulation patterns, green spaces, and sustainability strategies.
  • Site Analysis and Data Collection: Conducting thorough site assessments, including topographic surveys, environmental studies, zoning regulations, and community needs analysis to inform design decisions.


Qualifications:

  • Education : Bachelor of Architecture , Urban Planning , or any related field from an accredited school of higher education.
  • Experience : 10-15 years of experience in architectural master planning and design including work with the Federal Government and Museum Projects.
  • Proficient at utilizing AutoCAD, Revit, BlueBeam, GIS Software, and other design tools.
  • Knowledge : Able to quickly understand and master
  • Requirements of local state and federal jurisdictions in relation to the Project.
  • Strong visual communication abilities, including sketching, rendering, and creating compelling design presentation
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and translate them into informed design decisions
  • Construction Contract Documents including Front End and Technical Specifications and Drawing to readily understand and assess the requirements.
  • Working knowledge of engineering services, building codes, budgeting, and scheduling to lead to the project's success.
  • Leadership: Must possess the ability to collaborate and integrate with other professionals


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensing: Licensed Architect (AIA or RA) in any state
