About the Role:
As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the entire estimating process from start to finish. This includes assigning parts of the estimate to Junior Estimators, working with Group Managers, Project Managers, and other team members, and ensuring all necessary components of the estimate are completed. Additionally, the Senior Estimator will develop recap sheets, scope letters, and contribute to the preparation of RFP responses. You will also provide mentorship to Junior Estimators, assist with constructability reviews, and utilize knowledge of conceptual estimating.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the complete estimate preparation for bid submissions while managing other essential tasks.
- Guide Junior Estimators by answering questions, assisting with decision-making, and providing ongoing support.
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, and team members to clarify scope and other estimate-related matters, fostering strong client relationships for future business opportunities.
- Support Operations by breaking down estimates, calculating hours, and handling large change requests related to the estimate.
- Write clear scope letters to outline inclusions and exclusions in proposals.
- Proficiently use estimating software (e.g., Accubid) for take-off and quantification.
- Process purchase inquiries and analyze quotes for pricing, terms, delivery, and compliance with specifications.
- Promote Total Quality Management practices, ensuring project success.
- Review vendor and sub-contractor pricing to ensure accuracy and alignment with scope.
- Provide cost analysis and review for various projects.
- Develop recap sheets to finalize estimates, considering factors like overtime, scheduling, and equipment.
- Assess the impact of equipment and schedules on project costs.
- Coordinate and lead Risk Reviews to ensure all estimating factors are considered.
- Offer advice on constructability methods to improve project outcomes.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising project integrity.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in electrical estimating.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software such as Accubid.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present and actively listen.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education and Training:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management.
- Electrical Apprenticeship Training.
- NECA Estimating Courses.
