Job Title: Field Engineer Location: Phoenix, AZ
Job Type: Full-Time (50+ hours/week, including at least two Saturdays per month). Part Time will be considered for students pursuing a degree relevant to our industry.
Company Overview: Riggs Companies specializes in large commercial and industrial concrete projects, including tilt-up and structural concrete. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer to manage multiple project operations, ensuring exceptional quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This is a full time position, but the candidates will be considered for part time work if they are still a student pursuing their degree.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Operations:
- Attend job kickoff meetings to coordinate with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Foreman.
- Review drawings with the team to clarify questions and generate RFIs for unclear information before the project start.
Subcontractor Management:
- Review sub-contract agreements prior to mobilization.
- Understand scope and ensure alignment with the company’s proposal.
- Identify start and stop locations for subcontractors and internal teams.
Formwork and Panel Review:
- Review panel or formwork drawings before delivery to the field.
- Verify proper panel placement and assess the need for combining or splitting panels.
- Coordinate with the General Contractor (GC) regarding site preparation and crane access.
Project Startup and Scheduling:
- Attend startup meetings with the GC and utilize the project startup checklist.
- Set up initial project manpower and ensure crew alignment with the project budget.
- Coordinate concrete placement dates, material deliveries, and equipment requirements.
Submittals and Materials:
- Review submittals for conformance to project specifications.
- Coordinate mix designs and concrete delivery with the ready-mix provider.
- Ensure proper admixtures, slump, and placement equipment are utilized.
Safety Oversight:
- Collect and review job site toolbox talks.
- Ensure proper PPE availability and usage.
- Identify and address any job site hazards.
Profitability and Performance Tracking:
- Review project profitability monthly with the Project Manager and communicate updates to the Foreman.
- Monitor payroll weekly to ensure crew size aligns with project estimates.
- Evaluate crew performance on-site to ensure all employees are contributing effectively.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring repeat business through excellent performance.
- Conduct regular check-ins with the GC Superintendent to address concerns and ensure project success.
Post Project Review:
- Attend post-job meetings to review project performance.
- Walk the project site with the GC to gather feedback.
- Document positives, negatives, and areas for improvement for future projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field – or on track to receive degree.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in project management software and MS Office Suite.
- Ability to work 50+ hours per week, including at least two Saturdays per month when full time.
- Ability to work in the field.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality.
