Job Description

Responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supporting control systems for various industrial applications. The Controls Engineer will work closely with other members of the engineering team, and customers to ensure projects are completed on time, and within budget. Senior role that will have responsibilities to mentor other engineers in control systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop control systems for industrial applications using PLC, HMI, and other relevant technologies.
  • Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project plans and timelines for new control system installations or upgrades.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on electrical and instrumentation designs.
  • Test and commission control systems to ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Provide technical support during project installation, start-up, and commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for control systems.
  • Lead equipment safety risk assessments according to ISO12100
  • Develop equipment functional safety control systems according to ISO13849 and IEC 62061
  • Mentor other engineers and technicians in control systems, wiring schmatics and ladder logic
  • Stay up to date with new developments in control theory and technologies.
  • Report immediately all suspicious and hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
  • Understand and observe all safety guidelines and assure quality and safety by complying with all appropriate CB policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining clean, orderly and hazard-free work areas.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be detail oriented.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi or equivalent)
  • Experience with HMI programming and SCADA systems (Ignition)
  • Highly skilled with electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams (SolidWorks electrical 3D and electrical schematic professional)
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, etc.)
  • Proficiency in control system programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, function block diagram, and sequential function chart
  • Proficient in programming languages such as C++, Python, and MATLAB
  • Proficiency in functional safety design for manufacturing equipment according to ISO and IEC
  • Ability to write and read English

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in controls engineering or related field.

  • Regularly required to sit or stand for the length of shift, bend and reach.

  • Manufacturing areas, requires protective eyewear and/or hearing protection.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manufacturing areas, may be exposed to noise, smells, heat, dust, etc. Work requires the observance of fire regulations and safe work practices.
