Core Responsibilities of a Special Education Teacher

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific needs, abilities, and goals.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and materials to accommodate different learning styles and ensure student engagement.
  • Regular assessments should be conducted to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as necessary to ensure educational growth.
  • Create a compassionate and supportive classroom atmosphere fostering acceptance, respect, and positive student interactions.
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to optimize educational opportunities for students.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • A bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field is required; a master's degree is advantageous.
  • A valid teaching certification in special education is essential.
  • Proven experience working with students in a special education setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and IEP development processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
