Job Title: Executive Director of Protein Sciences

Based: Boston/Hybrid


I am delighted to be retained to by a Biotech based in Boston, MA who are using machine learning and computational biology to design novel proteins for therapeutics across various indications. Their innovative approach leverages AI to predict and generate proteins and are at the cutting edge of R&D.


Role Overview:


As the Executive Director of Protein Sciences, you will lead the Protein Sciences team. This will include building and managing a high-performing team, establishing efficient workflows, and ensuring excellence.


The ideal candidate will possess a robust scientific foundation along with demonstrated leadership and project management expertise as well as leveraging cutting edge AI/ML techniques.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Build and lead a high-performing Protein Sciences team, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Oversee the application of AI/ML tools to predict protein structure, stability, and function, accelerating the design cycle.
  • Drive the adoption and development of AI/ML methodologies for de novo protein design and analysis.
  • Work closely with discovery biology, structural biology, and therapeutic development teams to ensure protein designs meet target specifications and therapeutic needs.
  • Stay at the forefront of advancements in protein engineering, AI/ML, and biotechnology to inform strategy and innovation.


Key Qualifications:


  • PhD in Comp Sci, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Significant industry experience in enzymology and protein science, with a proven track record of developing AI/ML an a enzyme/protein biotechnology environment.
  • Deep understanding of process development, manufacturing, and quality in biotechnology.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading scientific teams and managing complex research projects in the life sciences space.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and numerical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and gain respect across scientific and executive teams.
