Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Sr. Quality Engineer to join our team in Troutville, VA reporting to the Quality Control Manager. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring that our cement production processes meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. This position involves monitoring production processes, conducting quality control tests, analyzing results, and implementing quality improvement initiatives. The Senior Quality Engineer will work closely with production, process engineering, and laboratory teams to drive continuous improvement and maintain product integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead quality control and assurance activities throughout the cement production process, from raw material analysis to finished product testing.
- Develop and implement quality control systems and procedures to ensure that cement products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
- Perform chemical, physical, and mechanical tests on raw materials, clinker, and cement to ensure consistency and compliance with quality standards.
- Analyze quality data and identify trends or deviations from specifications, proposing corrective actions to address non-conformities.
- Collaborate with production and process engineering teams to troubleshoot quality issues and optimize production processes to maintain product quality.
- Oversee the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure accurate testing methodologies.
- Manage and document all quality records, including test results, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, EN) and regulatory requirements for cement production.
- Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives for quality-related issues, implementing process improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Train and mentor plant staff on quality control procedures, best practices, and quality improvement techniques.
- Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 50001).
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, to ensure quality expectations are met.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in quality control/quality assurance within the cement or related heavy manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of cement manufacturing processes and quality control techniques, including chemical and physical testing of materials.
- Experience with laboratory testing equipment and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 50001).
- Proven track record of leading quality improvement projects and implementing corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, EN) and regulatory compliance requirements for cement production.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret quality data and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in root cause analysis, problem-solving, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Proficiency in quality control software and data management tools.
