About Us:
Anode exists to accelerate the monumental shift away from the supersystem of extraction, processing, and burning of fossil fuels - toward lightweight capture and consumption from entirely renewable sources. While decarbonization seems to be beyond our horizon, we remain undaunted - the long arc of energy consumption must bend toward sustainability. We believe in energy from renewable sources, seamlessly integrated into everyday life. The future is silent, efficient, zero-emission, flexible, distributed, and clean.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior or Staff Data Scientist with experience as a Software Engineer. The ideal candidate has a deep skillset in Data Science and modeling, but can also flex as a Backend Engineer to build their own datasets, tools, and production code from scratch. The systems developed by this person will drive the logistics and operational optimization of cutting-edge mobile energy storage systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop models and simulations of energy storage system utilization
- Define scheduling and optimization algorithms to model real-world operations
- Bootstrap a data pipeline and warehousing strategy to collect and analyze time series telematics
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software and system-level architectures that meet performance and safety requirements
- Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with firmware, systems, and product team members to determine where development efforts will have the greatest impact
- Foster data as a core tenet for decision-making at Anode
Must Have:
- 7+ years of relevant experience (data science and/or software engineering)
- Master of Sciences in a relevant field (Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, etc.)
- Strong proficiency in modeling and simulation
- Proficiency in core web competencies including SQL and relational database design
- Experience writing “production ready” code and owning it throughout deployment
- Experience driving development roadmaps and supporting operations in production
- Strong desire to own and understand the product from end-to-end (you will likely need to answer “why” build something in addition to “how”)
- Willingness to learn new skills and flex into all aspects of software development and deployment
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bonus Points for Experience With:
- Experience with time-series data storage and analysis.
- Familiarity with bootstrapping data pipelines, warehouses, or lakes.
- Knowledge of machine learning and constraint/cost function optimization.
- Background in robotics, battery management, power systems, or electric vehicles.
- Exposure to energy standards like SunSpec, IEEE 2030.5, UL 2900.
- Experience in startup environments, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.
