Job Title: Senior Engineer, Quality Assurance
Job Summary:
The Senior Engineer, Quality Assurance, ensures the company’s quality management system, procedures, and work processes comply with AAR, FRA, TTX, and other industry standards. This role focuses on performing dynamic process audits, providing detailed assessment reports, and leading improvement initiatives. The position requires independent and collaborative work, technical expertise, and mentoring of colleagues. Moderate travel is required, with the flexibility to work from a home office when not traveling.

This role is remote but must be Chicago-based and be willing to travel to the different FMO locations
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Systems and Compliance:
- Develop and enhance the Quality Management System, Procedures, Tools, and Practices in alignment with:
- TTX requirements and instructions.
- AAR Interchange Rules and Manual of Standards (e.g., MRP Specification J – M-1003).
- FRA Railroad Standards.
- Process Audits and Reporting:
- Conduct dynamic process audits to achieve QA Dashboard performance improvement objectives.
- Provide precise, detailed assessments (inspections and audits) in compliance with TTX QA procedures, consistently following reporting protocols.
- Leadership and Mentoring:
- Offer quality guidance and technical leadership to internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor junior quality engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering professional growth.
- Issue Resolution:
- Provide technical assistance to resolve product and process quality issues at various locations, ensuring compliance with AAR, FRA, and TTX requirements.
- Safety and Continuous Improvement:
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 9+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage diverse tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in conducting process and product audits at:
- Repair and field maintenance shop operations.
- New rail car manufacturing and lease acquisitions.
- Supplier evaluation and first article activities.
- Strong communication skills for interfacing with shop management, supervision, and stakeholders.
- Proficient in Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in industrial and railroad environments, including bending, stooping, climbing, and walking.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with expertise in mathematical analysis and data interpretation.
- Skilled in presenting information and responding to inquiries from senior leadership and external parties.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC card and eRailsafe Badge for access to ports and railroad locations.
- Preferred:
- AWS CWI or ASNT NDE Level II Certifications.
- Experience managing or auditing an AAR M-1003 QA program.
- ASQ or AAR Auditor training and Quality Assurance experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Familiarity with Engineering Tools (e.g., FEA, MATLAB) for investigative and engineering solutions.
