System Administrator (supporting Naval Research Lab)nnWelcome, MD 20693, USA Req #208nnMonday, December 2, 2024nnThe System Administrator position will join a team performing IT administration and support of a LAN/WAN environment which provides services on Linux, Unix, Windows, Cisco and other network and peripheral systems to support BPTF’s mission and administrative network activities.nnThe successful candidate will provide Linux Server and workstation support, maintenance of network devices, services and applications, as well as user support, diagnostics and troubleshooting. Fundamental knowledge of supporting network devices such as firewalls, switches, modems, and routers is desired. The successful candidate will also possess experience supporting Linux related software, protocols, client/server environments, VM, and remote access. Demonstrated experience should include diagnosing, troubleshooting and correcting problems with LAN/WAN services in order to install, configure, maintain and upgrade software on network systems. Strong understanding of network and system security is required. Familiarity with DISA STIGS, NIST guidelines, DoD Accreditation and Common Criteria, and DISA recommended best practices is desirable.nnSome specific job duties would include:nnInstallation, configuration and deployment of Linux servers and desktopsnnConfiguration of network hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.nnMaintenance of system configuration requirements and operating systems to established standards and requirementsnnPeriodic performance reporting to support capacity planningnnResearch and recommend innovative equipment, software, and techniques to improve the networknnLeverage and implement automated approaches for systems administration tasks.nnDaily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, system and key processes, system and application logs and verification of completion of scheduled jobs including backupsnnRegular security scanning and monitoring to identify possible intrusionsnnUser account maintenance as requirednnSupport for User/Operator requests for assistance on configured systemsnnRecovery from hardware and software failures per recovery plans, and coordination and communication with affected users in a timely mannernnApplication of operating system and application patches and upgrades on a regular basis per DoD and project guidancennUpgrade administrative tools and utilitiesnnConfigure/add new services as necessary and as defined by project guidancennMaintain all DoD and project operational configurations and procedures as definednnRequirements:nnDegree in Computer Science, Software Development, Network Engineering, or related field, OR 5-7 years of experience is required.nnCompTIA Security + Certification is requirednnExperience with Linux servers and workstation administration requirednnExperience with DoD Risk Management Framework compliance is highly desirednnTechnical background in network administration desirednnDemonstrable knowledge/experience with network protocols (specifically TCP/IP).nnExcellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.nnDoD 8570 compliance required.
