Position Title: **Marine Carpenter Reports To: Coatings SuperintendentnnPOSITION SUMMARY: Assist in the preparation of wooden components of ships and docking platforms. Assist in all areas of carpentry projects as needed.nnPACIFIC SHIPYARDS EXPECTATIONS OF EMPLOYEE: * *nnIs committed to the company values and adheres to all Pacific Shipyards International LLCs policies and procedures.nPerform duties of his/her job and as assigned by Management.nMaintain a positive and respectful attitude and conduct her/himself with integrity and in a polite, professional manner treating customers and co-workers courteously and respectfully.nCommunicates regularly with Officers, Managers, and Supervisors about the different divisions and departments issues.nConsistently be on time for work, meetings and appointments and deliver work projects by assigned due dates.nMaintain assigned work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.nMaintain and ensure the safety of all assigned equipment.nPerform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.nMeet productivity goals and quality standards as set by management.nnESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: * *nnTransfers dimensions to marine plywood and other construction materials using tape measure, square and marking/layout devices.nMakes accurate cuts of wood and other materials using table and chop saws and other related power tools.nTroubleshoot leaks, squeaks, warps and make recommendations for appropriate repair.nLayout, cut and assemble boat parts, such as doors, paneling, boxes, rails, and trim.nInstalls prefabricated/custom parts such as hatches, marine hardware, metal trim, seats and other parts.nGood working knowledge of most woodworking joints in the marine industry, such as scarf, sill splice, lap, finger, and dovetail.nSkilled knowledge and use of epoxies and vinylester resins or other adhesives to bond parts and perform basic fiberglass repair.nPerform other duties as assigned.nnSKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:nnGood attitude; must be a team player.nnEDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:nnHS Diploma or equivalent.nMinimum of 1 year of carpentry experience, preferable in a marine environment.nKnowledge of various types of woods, finish cabinetry attributes, and adhesives.nShipyard/Industrial Experience valuable.nnQUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: * *nnHigh school diploma is required.nMust be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential from the DoD to gain access to federally controlled work sites.nMust be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).nKnowledge of NAVSEA Standards.nAbility to read and interpret blueprints.nAbility to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.nKnowledge of wood working joints in the marine industry such as scarf, sill splice, lap, finger, finish cabinetry attributes, adhesives, and dovetail is a plus, however, not required.nAll candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and a background check before employment begins.Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification.nValid State of Hawaii drivers license in good standing, class 3 or higher.nCandidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift.nMust be flexible in work hours.nn**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:nnThis job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee filling this position.
