Job Description:
- Assists in collecting patient/family data, which may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per practice protocol.
- Collects and documents vital signs, BMI, height/weight, and reason for visit with 100% accuracy.
- Updates documentation to include if a patient has received care at any other location since the last visit.
- Documents current medications, allergies, and other information in the electronic health record with 100% accuracy.
- Tasks are measured by observation of the evaluator, feedback from providers and review of electronic health record.
- Prepares patient for examination per practice protocol.
- Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of practice.
- Completes treatments as directed by provider and within scope of practice.
- Documents all interventions per practice protocol.
- Calls in or sends electronic prescription refills as directed by provider and per practice protocol.
- Takes messages and returns calls from parents – offers telephone health advice per practice protocol and under provider’s direction.
- Assists provider in providing office emergency patient care.
Skills:
- A fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment. Also required is knowledge of related OSHA and CLIA/COLA guidelines and requirements, general office tasks, confidentiality and filing system. Knowledge of medical terminology.
- The ability to use thermometer, scales, sphygmomanometer/stethoscope, butterfly needles, hearing/vision screening equipment, pulse oximetry, typanometer, basic laboratory equipment, i.e., microscope, centrifuge, hematology analyzer, and specimen collection.
- Proficiency with treatments such as nebulizer, ear irrigation, and dressing changes.
- Familiarity with all business office machines, i.e., computer, multiline telephone, copier and fax machines.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Preferred Certified Medical Assistant, required AHA BLS
