Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Sales Assistant Manager to join our coming soon branch in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will be managing the sales team and leading the team to achieve sales targets and developing new foodservice customers in the Houston area. Responsibilities
- Meet the monthly and annual sales quota as designated by the manager
- Organize workflow and ensure that sales team understand their duties and delegated tasks
- Assist the Branch Manager in leading, supporting, and motivating sales team to achieve the overall corporate sales objectives
- Understand customer needs and offer solutions and support
- Train and coach the sales team by providing constructive feedback and monitoring employee productivity
- Ensure the sales team to collect payment and perform data entry task in a timely manner, whereas maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction at the same time
- Ensure that all employees adhere to Company policies and procedures
- Visit customers and potential customers to provide support, information, and sell the Company’s products
- Cooperate with accounting department to ensure the invoice payment is received in time
- Coordinate urgent deliveries with the customer to accommodate their needs
- Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport
- Educate customers on how the products or services can benefit them
- Input and update orders within the Company database accordingly
- Maintain and safely operate the Company vehicle as per the Company Vehicle Policy
- Participate in the weekly sales meetings
- Attend semiannual inventory count on designated day, possibly on a weekend
- Attend Company events and functions outside of normal working hours
- Other duties as required from manager
- Obligation to answer to all management as requested
Qualifications
High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree and above preferred. 2-3 years of relevant experience required. 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
Required Skills
- Basic level in English Reading, writing, speaking, and listening
- Native level in Japanese reading/speaking/listening/writing required
- To have and maintain a clean driving record in the latest 3 years
- Pass the Sake Adviser course within 1 year of employment
- Maintain a positive attitude
- Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload

- Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
