POSITION: Instructor of Acquisition Management

LOCATION: Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Wright Patterson AFB, OH

REQUIRED SECURITY CLEARANCE: Tier 1 (NACI)

POSITION TYPE/STANDARD WORK HOURS: Full-time/40 hours per week

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Instructor of Acquisition Management will support the Air Force Institute of Technology, School of Systems and Logistics (AFIT/LS) at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.


AFIT/LS is the Air Force's sole provider of Professional Continuing Education (PCE) courses in the areas of Acquisition, Logistics, and Software Engineering. With more than 100 courses and seminars, the school plans, develops, and conducts courses and programs to satisfy the technical management educational needs of logistics, systems, and acquisition customers from the Air Force, DoD, and other federal agencies. More than 20,000 students receive education from AFIT/LS each year.


The school currently offers Air Force courses ranging in length from two days to five weeks in the disciplines of Acquisition Management, Engineering Management, and Sustainment. It is also the leader in web-based education for the Acquisition and Logistics Workforce, providing the tools, skills, and abilities to manage the entire spectrum of a systems life cycle.


This Instructor role will develop and administer PCE developed to educate/train joint service active duty, reservist, and National Guard, officers, enlisted, and civilians on tactical, strategic, and operational levels related to Acquisition Management in the Air Force.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, maintain, and teach course material in residence, on site, and via Distance Learning (DL) modes. Some travel may be required to different sites to instruct or develop curriculum.
  • Coordinate course offerings, document courses in accordance with Air Force and AFIT policies and conduct post-offering assessments.
  • Interact with various course sponsors to determine education needs in order to develop, maintain, and instruct course content appropriately.
  • Consult or advise as the subject matter expert in Air Force Acquisition business processes and business information systems.
  • Participate in consultation efforts, and attend or participate in workshops, conferences, technical interchanges or similar venues as directed by the Government.
  • Assist faculty and staff with graduate-level research, including literature reviews, data collection, technical writing, instruction, and other duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must pass a DoD Tier1 investigation.
  • Master's degree in Business Management, Program Management, or a related technical field, PLUS 12 years of experience, five of which must be in the DoD. (OR: a Bachelor degree PLUS 15 years of experience, five of which must be in the DoD, or 20 years of directly related experience, eight of which must be in the DoD.)
  • PM Level II Certification, preferably a PM Level III
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the DoD Acquisition cycle.
  • Knowledge of USAF Acquisition Processes as well as logistics experience, focused on design, development, testing, and sustaining USAF weapons systems and programs.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Passport.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Canvas LMS or similar Learning Management System software, desired.
  • Experience with Blackboard.


TRAVEL:

This role will require occasional travel to instruct or attend a seminar/conference at different locations, both CONUS and OCONUS, as the mission requires and approved by the Government. The current travel estimate is once a quarter; however, travel needs may change quickly based on requirements.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not supervise the work of others.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, 80%.
