Job Description

Organisation History & Mission

The MinKwon Center for Community Action was established in 1984 to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community. Since our founding, we have made a profound presence through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies at the national, state and city levels, voter rights, and cultural awareness. The MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members, including youth, elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited-English-proficient residents.

  • Administer and create content for MinKwon’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, and TikTok.
  • Draft and distribute press releases and advisories for press conferences, media briefings, and media statements.
  • Maintain media contact lists and oversee media requests.
  • Produce and send MinKwon’s monthly e-newsletter and update MinKwon’s listserv as needed.
  • Develop MinKwon print communications materials, such as the annual report and gala journal.
  • Maintain MinKwon’s website, including updating and creating new content, pictures, and multimedia.
  • Design, edit, and distribute flyers, social media graphics, brochures, fact sheets, and other promotional and informational material.
  • Work closely with the Development, Executive, and other Director-level staff to promote MinKwon’s work and to maintain a robust presence in the ethnic and mainstream media.

Qualifications

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following:

  • English and Korean proficiency required.
  • Experience coordinating media and external communications partnerships preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canva and other design software highly preferred.
  • Interest, experience, and demonstrated commitment towards working on social justice issues in the context of the immigrant, Asian American or Korean American community.

  • Ability to be highly organized, to meet deadlines, and take initiative on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in teams.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in occasional evening/weekend events.
