Trade Compliance Specialist

Position Summary
The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for executing trade compliance, regulatory, and risk management activities within the Operations Department. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, supports classification and documentation for import/export processes, and provides administrative support as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Compliance
- Complete compliance checklists and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure adherence to EPA, TSCA, DOT, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Update and maintain compliance documentation and databases.
- Import/Export Support
- Assist in classifying products and verifying import tariff codes.
- Support the export documentation process, including ECCN and duty rate checks.
- Obtain and verify compliance documentation (SDS, CAS numbers) from suppliers.
- Database Maintenance
- Maintain product database with information on product names, part numbers, suppliers, and compliance details.
- Regularly update databases to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Training & Regulatory Updates
- Attend and share knowledge from compliance seminars, webinars, and training.
- Regularly update branch staff on relevant regulatory changes and compliance procedures.
- Quality Assurance
- Review post-entry import/export files to confirm proper documentation.
- Accurately file and archive records to maintain compliance with trade regulations.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Comply with regulations from agencies like the EPA, USDA, FDA, DOT, OSHA, and BIS.
- Coordinate with management on compliance concerns related to new products or import/export activities.
- Administrative & Backup Functions
- Provide administrative support, including handling calls and maintaining office supplies.
- Serve as backup for trade compliance and administrative duties when needed.
- Professional Development
- Engage in educational workshops to remain current on industry trends and apply new knowledge to improve compliance practices.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Environment : Office-based, with regular use of standard office equipment.
- Physical Requirements : Mostly sedentary, with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- Type : Full-time, Hybrid, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm; occasional early, late, or weekend hours may be required.
- Travel : May require travel and a valid driver’s license or passport.
Qualifications
- Required : High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Preferred : Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 2-4 years of experience, or equivalent education and experience.
