- Part Time position 3:00pm-11:00pm
- Direct theday-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with currentrules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Ensure that allnursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies andprocedures established by this facility.
- Ensure that thenursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the NursingService Procedures Manual.
- Make written andoral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift asrequired.
- Cooperate withother resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that theresidents total regimen of care is maintained.
- Ensure that allnursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective jobdescriptions.
- Participate inthe development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility's qualityassurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participate insurveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as may berequested.
- Interpret thedepartment policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, andgovernment agencies as required.
- Admit, transfer,and discharge residents as required per policies and procedures.
- Completeaccident/incident reports as necessary per policies and procedures.
- Performadministrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations,studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Complete and filerequired recordkeeping forms/charts upon the resident admission, transfer,and/or discharge.
- Receive telephoneorders from physicians and record on the Physicians Order Form.
- Transcribephysicians orders to resident charts, cardex, medication cards, treatment/careplans, as required.
- Chart nurses notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care providedto the resident, as well as the resident response to care.
- Recordnew/changed diet orders. Forward information to the Dietary Department.
- Report alldiscrepancies noted concerning physician orders, diet change, charting error,etc., to the Nurse Manager and/or the Director of Nursing.
- Inform theDirector of Nursing of staffing needs when assigned personnel fail to report towork. Report absentee call-ins to the Director of Nursing.
- Develop workassignments and/or assist in completing and performing such assignments.Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.
- Make daily roundsof your unit/shift to ensure that nursing service personnel are performingtheir work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Reportproblem areas to the Director of Nursing.
- Develop andmaintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as otherdepartments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activitiescan be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Create andmaintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, aswell as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
- Ensure thatdisciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color,creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status.
- Informappropriate personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, roomassignment, etc.
- Participate inthe orientation of new residents/family members to the facility
- Make rounds withphysicians as necessary.
- Requisition andarrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician,and in accordance with our established procedures
- Review theresident chart for specific treatments, medication orders, diets, etc., asnecessary
- Make periodicchecks to ensure that prescribed treatments are being properly administered bycertified nursing assistants and to evaluate the resident physical andemotional status.
- Notify theresident attending physician and next-of-kin when there is a change in theresident condition/death.
- Inspect thenursing service treatment areas daily to ensure that they are maintained in aclean and safe manner.
- Administerprofessional services such as; catheterization, tube feedings, suction,applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags,glucometers, and range of motion exercises, end of life patient care
- Obtain sputum,urine and other specimens for lab tests as ordered.
- Take and recordTPRs, blood pressures, etc., as necessary.
- Administermedications per facility protocols.
- Monitor seriouslyill residents as necessary.
- Ensure thatpersonnel providing direct care to residents are providing such care inaccordance with the resident care plan and wishes.
- Ensure thatresidents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
- Ensure that yourassigned work areas (i.e., nurse stations, medicine preparation rooms, etc.)are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Ensure that yourassigned personnel follow established hand-washing techniques in theadministering of nursing care procedures.
- Ensure that yourassigned personnel follow established infection control procedures whenisolation precautions become necessary.
- Inform theDirector of Nursing of any changes that need to be made on the care plan.
- Ensure that yournurses notes reflect that the care plan is being followed when administeringnursing care or treatment.
- Ensure that yourassigned certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are aware of the resident careplans
- Monitor nursingcare to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness,dignity, and respect.
- Ensure that allnursing service personnel are knowledgeable of the resident's responsibilitiesand rights including the right to refuse treatment.
- Review complaintsand grievances made by the resident and make a written/oral report to theDirector of Nursing indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve thecomplaint or grievance.
