Job Opportunity: Synthetic Organic Chemist – Bay Area Biotech
Job Type: Contract (12 months, 40 hours/week)
Location: San Francisco (onsite 5 days/week)
A dynamic biotech company in the Bay Area is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Synthetic Organic Chemist to join our team in the development of novel small molecules. In this role, you will collaborate with our medicinal chemistry group and external CRO partners to design and synthesize drug-like molecules with optimal potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy to advance into human clinical trials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Synthesize and characterize novel small molecules in collaboration with the medicinal chemistry team and external partners.
- Design and execute multi-step synthetic routes, ensuring flexibility for late-stage divergence.
- Optimize synthetic strategies and troubleshoot complex reactions with a high degree of independence and creativity.
- Work on medium scale to prepare key intermediates.
- Purify and analyze chemical intermediates and final compounds using advanced characterization techniques, including NMR and LCMS.
Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
- At least 1 year of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, specifically within a chemistry department.
- Expertise in organic synthesis and familiarity with the latest literature, synthetic reactions, and methodologies.
- Proficiency in running parallel reactions and optimizing reaction conditions.
- Skilled in purifying and characterizing compounds using modern techniques (NMR, LCMS, etc.).
