Job Description

The role:

The Technical Advisor will serve as a subject matter expert on technical regulations and standards for 

the ASTTBC. Working closely with the registrations, investigations, and practice teams, the Technical 

Advisor’s responsibilities include providing technical guidance, interpreting regulations, analyzing data, 

and supporting the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance to the Professional 

Governance Act (PGA), ASTTBC Bylaws, Standards of Competency and Code of Ethics. Reporting to 

the Registrar, this is a full-time position working from Monday to Friday from 8am – 4pm with the 

occasional change in work schedule to meet operational needs. 


Key Areas of Responsibility: 

1. Provide internal technical advice on the interpretation and application of regulations, standards, and 

guidelines. 

2. Review technical documentation, reports, and studies to ensure compliance with regulatory 

requirements. 

3. Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to inform policy development and regulatory 

decision-making. 

4. Collaborate with staff and a variety of stakeholders to exchange information and best practices. 

5. Develop and deliver technical training materials and presentations for staff and stakeholders. 

6. Participate in technical committees, working groups, and industry associations to represent the 

regulatory body's interests and contribute to the development of industry standards. 

7. Contribute to the development and revision of internal policies, procedures, and guidelines related to 

technical regulations. 

8. Analyze complex technical data and information to support decision-making and problem-solving. 

9. Perform duties in compliance with the regulatory requirements under the Professional Governance 

Act, International Credentials Recognition Act, and ASTTBC regulations and bylaws, and to the 

standards of good governance set by the OSPG. 

10. Perform other duties as directed by the CEO or designate.

? Excellent understanding of regulatory functions and ability to interpret regulatory statutes, bylaws, 

and other relevant legislation.

? Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to 

diverse audiences. 

? Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders 

at all levels. 

? Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. 

? A solution seeker who can deal effectively with ambiguity and uncertainty. 

? Proficiency using Microsoft software applications, computer, and communication technology. 

? An understanding of the engineering and applied science technology profession is an asset. 


Who you are:

Education 

? Post-secondary education in engineering, science or a related discipline. 

? Professional certification or eligible for certification as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT), 

Certified Technician (CTech) or equivalent required. 


Experience 

? Minimum three years demonstrated experience working with multiple stakeholders, disciplines 

and/or engineering projects. 

? Experience in a professional regulatory body or in professional regulation is an asset.

? Salary range of $75,000 to $85,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and ability to meet 

the key requirements of the position, and consideration of internal equity comparisons)
