Employment Type:nnFull timennShift:nnDay ShiftnnDescription:nnThe surgical technologist, using the principles of medical asepsis, prepares the operating room for surgical cases of all specialties and instruments the surgical procedures anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The surgical technologist provides care within the Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa Standards of Care, AORN Standards of Care and Practice and the Operating Room Policies and Procedures.THIS ISnnPosition Purpose:nnThe surgical technologist, using the principles of medical asepsis, prepares the operating room for surgical cases of all specialties and instruments the surgical procedures anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The surgical technologist provides care within the MercyOne North Iowa Standards of Care, AORN Standards of Care and Practice and the Operating Room Policies and Procedures.nnWhat you Will Do:nnAssists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care.nnProvides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice.nnAssists in setting up rooms.nnSecures safe transport of the patient if needed.nnConfirms correctness of the surgical site, prepares the pre-operative site, instruments the case, manages the sterile field and specimens, and turns the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse.nnServes as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources.nnMeets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager.nnIdentifies accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards.nnUtilizes and maintains appropriate supplies during the case and in the department.nnDevelops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties.nnHours: Day Shift - Ability to work flexible hours - 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts available. Call includes one weekend a month, 2 holidays per year, and 2 5p-7p calls per week if needed.nnMinimum Qualifications:nnEducation:nnGraduate of a surgical technologist program is required; or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience.nnCertification as a surgical technologist preferred.
