Job Summary:
The Associate Colored Gemstone Buyer’s role is to ensure and support day-to-day sourcing and grading of colored stone melee and certified stones. It includes and is not limited to: forecasting, analyzing and maintaining key buying reports for the management, gemstone grading, ordering stones from the vendors, communicating with the supplier base.
Key Duties Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Ensuring HW quality standards are met for all stones that are considered for purchase or consignment.
- Ensuring proper placement of stone orders based on the demand forecast, new product launches/projects and special client orders.
- Creating Blanket Purchase Orders (BP) in GEM for stock orders, client requests, over issues and special projects.
- Tracking BP and open memos to update balance of monthly open orders/projections by regularly checking buy lists and suggest order amount when needed.
- Coordinating with suppliers on shipping instructions, sourcing due dates and priority jobs.
- Keeping track of advanced inventory Melee requests for production planning in a timely manner.
- Communicating with internal team and operation team to coordinate and ensure a steady flow of goods considered for purchasing.
- Pricing check on memos based on HW premium pricing and negotiate prices if necessary prior to purchase.
- Effectively communicate with the Colored Gemstone Purchasing Manager and Gemstone Sourcing Director on day-to-day issues related to purchasing, supplier relationship issues, vendor business analysis, and rejection summary.
Key Job Relationships:
- Liaise with cross-functional areas including Design, Product Development, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Inventory Control, Merchandise Planning, and Finance to effectively ensure the needs of the business are met.
- Keep in constant communication with the vendor base in order to ensure the required delivery schedules are met for stock orders, new product launches and client orders.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or above with GIA Graduate Gemologist and minimum of 5+ years experience in grading and purchasing Diamonds and Color Stones for high end luxury jewelry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with Management
- Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
- Proficient Microsoft Excel skills
- Self-motivated with a strong drive for achievement.
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills necessary.
- Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
