The Role:
We are currently looking for an Engineering candidate for the Electrical Design of custom machinery. This expert will possess the work knowledge and experience to complete electrical designs in a fast-paced environment following company standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop electrical designs that meet the needs defined in the scope of work while working within a defined schedule and budget.
- Calculate electrical sizing of control devices including cables, fuses, brake resistors and transformers
- Proven knowledge of safety control design including safety relays, controllers, light curtains, safety scanners and zoning. Work closely with the team to develop Safety Risk assessments
- Strong knowledge of motion control systems with Servos and VFD’s
- Work directly with electrical inspectors to ensure that electrical designs meet the requirements to pass inspection (panels typically certified to CSA/UL & system certified to PSR)
- Co-ordinate the development of the project with electrical & mechanical engineering
- Develop detailed electrical design schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
- Work closely with our controls team and our testing team, throughout the design process.
- Follow company-defined processes including design documentation, milestone checklists and engineering change requests
- Developing code for PLC/motion control platforms such as Rockwell, Bosch, etc.
- Testing, configuring and integrating fast, precise, and synchronized motion control solutions and other ancillary devices and actuators such as hydraulic and pneumatic systems, safety devices, sensors etc.
- Developing and deploying user interface platforms such as HMIs.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience, or technologist designation with the appropriate level of experience.
- Proven experience with electrical control system design with PLC and HMI, Allen Bradley and Bosch platform are preferred, Schneider and Siemens would be an asset
- Proficient with VFD integration, including selecting and sizing VFD drives like Allen Bradley PowerFlex, Bosch EFC 3610/5610, ABB ACS880, etc. sizing cables, fuses and transformers
- Proficient with servo control integration, including Allen Bradley Kinetix 5500/5700, Bosch IndraDrive, etc. flying shear and material handling application is a plus
- Proficient with pneumatic and hydraulic system integration, hydraulic press experience would be an asset
- Proficient with electrical safety design, including selecting and applying safety devices like light curtains, gate safety switches, etc.
- Familiar with sensors like inductive proximity sensor, photo-eye, hall switch, etc. 2D/3D vision experience would be an asset
- Experience with electrical control communication protocols like Ethernet/IP, SERCOS II/III, Profinet, etc.
- Experience with servo sizing would be an asset
- Experience with CE control system certification would be an asset.
- Familiar with electrical design codes CEC and NEC
- Proficient using AutoCAD Electrical to design electrical schematics, including power and control circuit, panel layout, cable tray layout and conduit list.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills are also required
- Experience performing safety risk assessments and PSR
