Job Description

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of IVHS & SPCA’s social media marketing. The Coordinator engages in social media practices necessary to build awareness of IVHS & SPCA’s mission, vision, programs, services and community achievements.

With a staff of highly recognized animal control and humane officers, Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. (IVHS & SPCA) answers the call of thousands of animals in need every year. Our community outreach programs educate the public on the humane treatment of animals including local wildlife, proper pet care, and how to be a responsible pet owner. Equally important is IVHS & SPCA’s commitment to providing affordable veterinary care with a low-cost vaccination clinic, low-cost and no-cost spay and neuter programs, and microchipping for pets in our communities.

 

Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

 

  • Develop and implement daily social media content that aligns with organizational strategy, including news distribution, success stories, program highlights, event promotion, and fundraising appeals.
  • Design creative content to increase adoptions, promote responsible pet ownership, and share newsworthy stories using social media strategies and tactics to enhance the public’s perception of IVHS & SPCA.
  • Write posts using best practices to maximize engagement.
  • Maintain consistent branding, tone, and voice across all platforms.
  • Update all social media platforms with pertinent information during emergencies or breaking news.
  • Conduct social media outreach on common platforms to grow followers and increase awareness of the organization in the community, furthering the IVHS & SPCA brand identity.
  • Report on and respond to daily social media correspondence and interactions with followers in a timely manner.
  • Address online reviews and feedback from external sites such as Yelp, Google, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Coordinate with multiple departments to develop engaging and strategy-driven content for the website, events, and social media through written/graphic communications, videography, and photography.
  • Work closely with Department Managers and other leadership to handle PR issues and strategize internal and external communications.
  • Form building and maintenance, including auto-responders and embedding.
  • Track, monitor, and report on media and social media analytics regularly.
  • Review existing media strategies to ensure appropriate content is being posted and advertised.
  • Align organic social media activity with paid social campaigns.
  • Develop strong creative ideas for digital and print communications.
  • Ensure that all creative content aligns with organizational goals and increases audience engagement.

 

Education/Experience Required

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience managing social media for organizations, preferably in nonprofit or animal welfare.
  • Proficiency in social media tools and analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Insights).
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) or willingness to learn.


Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish/Mandarin) preferred.
  • Experience with photography, videography, and Blackbaud/Luminate is a plus.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

  • Familiarity with general marketing and social media principles and channels. Ability to translate business and marketing objectives on to social platforms.
  • Advanced experience in various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube.
  • Familiarity with project management, media planning and maintaining a social media content calendar.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends and evenings, as required.
  • Proven experience in managing social media ad campaigns, including budgeting, tracking, and scheduling, to maximize campaign effectiveness.
  • Ability and desire to grow social media presence, including monitoring audience reaction and responding to emergent situations.
  • Ability to produce compelling visual content through photos, graphics and videos.
  • Ability to identify creative story ideas that resonate with audiences, donors and members of the media.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment

 

  • Work is performed in an office setting within an animal shelter facility. Regular exposure to animal shelter conditions: odors and airborne particles including animal fur.
  • Regularly sit at a computer station and operate electronic equipment.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 30 pounds when moving supplies and assisting with special events.
  • Typically stand, bend, stoop and crouch while working with staff and animals. Regular movement about the campus to coordinate work.
  • High levels of noise.
