Job Purpose/Summary:

The Benefits Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the company benefits programs. This position oversees all benefits programs and leaves of absence and accommodations. The position also maintains working knowledge of the federal and state legislation influencing benefits to ensure programs are current with regulations and practices, trends, and costs.

Responsibilities and Job Requirements

  • Oversee the administration of all benefit plans
  • Oversee the administration of all plan vendors, work closely with third party administrators to expedite and facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all eligible employees
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of data for benefit enrollments, changes and termination information in the HRIS and vendor systems
  • Apply functional knowledge to ensure compliance with DOL, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA and any other applicable Federal, State, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; obtaining qualified opinions; enforcing adherence to requirements, advising management on needed actions
  • Develop annual benefits proposal for senior management approval; participate in national and local benefit surveys to analyze results and develop recommendations
  • Negotiate with third-party benefits consultants to provide competitive, employee-friendly, inclusive plans at efficient rates
  • Provide management support and assistance with the development and coordination of new employee orientation, annual open enrollment and distribution of correspondence and updates pertaining to benefits to all employees.
  • Ensure guaranteed issuance and evidence of insurability requirements and procedures are implemented and followed in a timely manner and in accordance with Benefit Plan contracts/policies.
  • Evaluate and recommend updates to Plan Documents and Summary Plan Descriptions, benefit summaries, contracts, new hire orientation and open enrollment materials, and ongoing marketing/educational materials, develop and maintain a structure for reflecting the scope, terms and cost (including renewal data) of each.
  • Manage the organization’s retirement plan including ongoing compliance, testing, and plan review
  • Manage and oversee the leave of absence program and ADA accommodations
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends



Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required. Master's degree preferred
  • 10 years of related experience in an equivalent role (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive benefits program


Required skills:

  • Ability to manage a team with disparate responsibilities, ensure deadlines are met, and team is motivated and engaged
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and Bswift programs
  • Sophisticated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent negotiation, and vendor management skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations



Compensation $142,500k-$157,500k base salary
