Description
The Columbia Presbyterian Community, a Life Plan Community, is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to assist the Executive Chef in designing and preparing meals. The Sous Chef provides culinary expertise and leadership; promotes quality food services and ensures food safety and sanitation requirements are consistently followed. The ideal candidate will be hospitality minded and have worked as a Sous Chef in a retirement community, hotel, restaurant or similar setting.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure items are produced and dated according to specification, and labeling system is adhered to correctly.
  • Adhere to and help implement safety and sanitation regulations; maintain cleanliness through shift to ensure quality product.
  • Assist in training and monitoring employees on proper work procedures to ensure maximum productivity with minimum labor and food expenses.
  • Inspect all preparation and cooking equipment on a regular basis to ensure that they are kept clean, sanitary, and in perfect operating order
  • Ensure that food products, presentation, temperature, and plating are of the highest quality, and are prepared to serve in a timely manner
  • Serve as a backup for the Executive Chef in his or her absence.
  • Monitor holding and storage operations, stocking and food rotation.

Minimum Education, Experience and Skills
  • Two years cooking experience in a fine dining/hotel environment
  • Experience in a culinary leadership role
  • High School or GED
  • ServSafe Certified
  • Intermediate Computer Skills
  • Valid SC Driver's License
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
  • Three years of cooking experience in CCRC, Assisted Living, and/or Long Term Care industry
  • Knowledge of SC DHEC regulations
  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts
