Max Salary: $125,000 plus benefits and PTO

Reports To: Owner/Principal Consultant

As part of our continued growth and commitment to exceptional service, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Labor and Employment Attorney to join our team.


Position Summary:

The Labor and Employment Attorney will serve as an in-house legal resource to support our HR consulting services. This individual will provide expert guidance on employment law compliance, draft and review workplace policies, assist with workplace investigations, and deliver practical solutions for a wide range of HR-related challenges. The role requires a combination of legal expertise, client-focused communication, and an ability to navigate complex workplace issues.


Key Responsibilities:


Legal Advisory and Compliance:

  • Provide expert advice on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC guidelines, and others.
  • Ensure clients maintain compliance with applicable labor laws, updating them on changes that could impact their operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify and address compliance gaps in client organizations.
  • Policy Development and Review:
  • Draft, review, and revise employee handbooks, policies, and procedures to ensure legal compliance and alignment with client goals.
  • Provide guidance on crafting and implementing HR policies for new or evolving workplace situations.


Workplace Investigations:

  • Lead and/or assist in conducting impartial workplace investigations, including those involving harassment, discrimination, and employee misconduct.
  • Develop comprehensive reports with actionable recommendations based on investigative findings.


Training and Education:

  • Design and deliver training sessions for client management teams on topics such as workplace compliance, harassment prevention, and legal updates.
  • Provide ongoing legal education to internal HR consultants to enhance their ability to serve clients effectively.
  • Client Support:
  • Offer strategic counsel to clients on employee relations matters, including terminations, accommodations, and workplace disputes.
  • Review and draft employee handbooks and related supplements, employment agreements, non-compete clauses, and severance agreements.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the consulting team to deliver seamless, integrated services to clients.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and developments in employment law to inform best practices.
  • Represent the company and provide legal perspectives in meetings or presentations as needed.


Qualifications:


Education and Licensing:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in NYS


Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience as an employment attorney or in a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws and regulations.
  • Prior experience working with small to medium-sized businesses is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and team members.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
