Overview:

The Director of Landscape Architecture & Planning will oversee all landscape architecture and planning functions across multiple offices. This role demands strong expertise in project management, client engagement, and team leadership to ensure the successful execution of projects. The Director will be instrumental in driving business development, managing staff, and enhancing both client satisfaction and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities:


Project Leadership & Execution:

  • Oversee and manage landscape architecture and planning projects across all MD offices.
  • Ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet client expectations.
  • Provide technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle, including concept, design, and implementation phases.


Client & Employee Satisfaction:

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Promote employee growth and maintain low staff turnover by fostering a positive work environment.


Business Development & Marketing:

  • Lead efforts in marketing new business opportunities and expanding services across all offices.
  • Develop and present proposals, negotiate contracts, and handle extra work authorizations.


Team Management & Recruitment:

  • Recruit, hire, and train both new and existing staff.
  • Manage and mentor a team of 3 to 8 professionals, including landscape architects, planners, and CAD technicians.
  • Provide leadership, resolve technical issues, and ensure team alignment with project goals.


Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations for the Landscape Architecture and Planning services department.
  • Allocate production staff, set priorities, and manage workloads across multiple offices to meet deadlines and budget requirements.


Client & Agency Interaction:

  • Serve as the primary contact for clients and regulatory agencies, resolving project issues, addressing concerns, and facilitating approvals.


Work Activities:

  • Manage all aspects of landscape architecture and planning projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality work.
  • Regularly communicate with clients, resolving concerns, and keeping projects on track.
  • Oversee billing, scheduling, and proposals, ensuring financial performance of the department.
  • Lead internal meetings to assess project progress and challenges, while meeting regularly with senior management.


Team Structure:

  • Reports to the Managing Director and President, with weekly and quarterly meetings to discuss ongoing projects and new business opportunities.
  • Directly manages a team of 3 to 8 professionals, including landscape architects, planners, and CAD staff.
  • Regular collaboration with branch offices, clients, regulatory agencies, and branch managers.


Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Highly motivated with expertise in landscape architecture and planning.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in landscape architecture, planning, or a similar discipline.
  • Professional registration (PLA, RLA, or equivalent) required.
  • Extensive experience with zoning, rezoning, site design, public hearings, and land development codes.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage commercial, residential, and mixed-use development projects.
