JOB SUMMARY
This position works under general supervision of Chief Radiation Therapist to provide radiotherapy treatments as prescribed by the physicians to adult and pediatric populations.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education
    Graduate of JCERT accredited program in Radiation Therapy or equivalent. or
    Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare field or
    Associate's Degree in a healthcare field

  • Experience
    5 years of progressive experience as a Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) with Bachelor's Degree. or
    7 years at level of Radiation Therapist I or equivalent with Associate's Degree.

  • Licenses and Certifications
    Licensure as a Medical Radiologic Technologist by the Texas Medical Board Upon Hire and
    (BLS) Course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire and
    Must have passed the registry exam as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) Upon Hire

    MRI Training preferred, but not required


JOB DUTIES

  • Operates a variety of complex treatment machines to deliver prescribed treatment dose.
  • Prepares and educates patients for radiotherapy; Administers complex radiotherapy treatment and monitors patient separation from complex treatment machine. Provides mentorship of Radiation Therapist I in conventional radiotherapy treatments.
  • Prepares treatment room and fabricates immobilization/treatment devices.
  • Coordinates patient scheduling and retrieval of patient records.
  • Assures radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
  • Tracks, records, and compiles all clinical research data of patients following departmental and IRB policies.
  • Follows and participates in development of program's policies, procedures, and quality assurance methods.
  • Discusses technical problems with faculty and staff to suggest corrections and/or solutions.
  • Consults with supervisor or physician concerning treatment.
  • May perform computer driven dosimetry and all related treatment plan calculations.
  • Assists in commissioning, calibration, quality assurance, and physical measurements as appropriate for system accuracy.
  • Participates in call duties for non-emergent and emergent clinical needs as assigned.
  • Actively engages in teaching, supervising, and evaluation of students in the Radiation Therapy program.
  • Performs orientation of new employees, not limited to therapists.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership performance in the following areas:
    * a. Adequate time slots provided for daily treatments.
    * b. Participates in resolution of machine coverage issues.
    * c. Aptitude to manage patient throughput with a pace consistent to the daily schedule.
    * d. Skill to meet special scheduling request/needs for patients without compromising the schedules of other patients.
    * e. Provides input at meetings on improvements or changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
