Level IV Respiratory Therapist, in addition to job duties stated in Respiratory Therapist + Level II & III job descriptions, assumes an expanded role which includes but is not limited to assuming the charge therapist role, serving as a department resource in at least one critical care (Pediatric or Adult) area of the hospital. If functioning as a Senior Respiratory Therapist in addition to the job duties stated above must be able to competently work in ALL areas of the hospital. As Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, is responsible for supervision of all Respiratory Care employees and responsible for maintaining the quality for patient care throughout the hospital on their respective shift.Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: Is accountable for provision of competent patient care based on established standards. Level IV Respiratory Therapist, in addition to job duties stated in Respiratory Therapist - Level II & III job descriptions, assumes an expanded role which includes but is not limited to assuming the charge therapist role, serving as a department resource in at least one critical care (Pediatric or Adult) area of the hospital. If functioning as a Senior Respiratory Therapist in addition to the job duties stated above must be able to competently work in ALL areas of the hospital, will perform all respiratory therapy activities of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and is responsible for general management duties. As Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, also responsible for supervision of all Respiratory Care employees and responsible for maintaining the quality for patient care throughout the hospital on their respective shift. TYPICAL DUTIES: - Provides instruction in respiratory therapy for technicians, nurses, and residents. Plans and conducts orientation and classroom instruction on routine and non-routine respiratory therapy procedures. - Performs special and complex procedures which include but are not limited to setting up and/or troubleshooting nitric oxide, HFOV, and the MRI ventilator, is able to function independently in the ED (adult and pediatric) and in the OR with a vent and/or nitric oxide. Provides instruction to others on special and complex procedures. - Directs and supervises work of Level I and II staff for assigned areas. - Performs and/or reviews laboratory analyses, such as blood gas analyses, ensures consistent technical accuracy of such procedures and results. - Performs one of the following: Participates in the development/implementation of new techniques/guidelines/protocols related to respiratory care; develops and coordinates educational offerings for staff; develops and oversees a Process Improvement/Quality Assurance project; performs developmental research assignments with an M.D./Nurse Practitioner (compiles data, prepares reports, etc); or chairs/oversees and coordinates a committee, which improves the quality and delivery of patient care. - Demonstrates expert Respiratory Care knowledge of therapies specific to the patient population in NICU/PICU, Adult ICU, or both. As Sr. Respiratory Therapist demonstrates expertise in all patient populations. Respiratory Therapy Supervisor: - Plans and assigns work schedules on a daily basis to technicians and therapists. - Evaluates employee performance and reviews performance with employee prior to evaluation. - Meets with all employees on their shift for periodic assessment. - Makes recommendations for hiring, promotion and termination of staff. - Monitors and completes records to maintain timely charging of procedures. - Participates in Departmental Quality Assurance monitoring program. - Monitors and completes records to maintain timely charging of procedures. - Participates in Departmental Quality Assurance monitoring program.
