POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Physical Therapist, you will assess patient function and apply suitable treatments to enhance or restore mobility. You will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration for staff training and community education, and may be involved in cross-site care.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program with a minimum of a B.S.
  • Must possess a current license in Physical Therapy in Connecticut.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable using computers with proficiency in Windows-based programs essential for departmental tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search functions preferred.
  • Reliable transportation is required for travel between multiple work sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following competencies and responsibilities may be adjusted over time and are not a complete list of all tasks associated with this role:

  1. Assess patients according to departmental standards.
  2. Conduct and adjust evaluations based on patient symptoms and status, setting unique, measurable goals.
  3. Provide appropriate therapeutic exercises focused on strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.
  4. Utilize physical modalities and manual therapy techniques to manage pain and achieve treatment objectives.
  5. Employ effective strategies to support motor activity normalization and learning.
  6. Instruct patients or families in home exercise regimes to enhance functional independence.
  7. Determine when patients have reached their treatment potential, recommending discharge when suitable.
  8. Document care according to insurance guidelines while adhering to departmental policies.
  9. Facilitate communication with other departments and referring physicians regarding patient care.
  10. Accurately complete and submit daily charges.
  11. Uphold the professional code of ethics established by the APTA and the facility.
  12. Perform all duties adhering to proper safety and body mechanics principles.
  13. Supervise at least one affiliated student each year.
  14. Participate in continuing education to enhance treatment methods.
  15. Engage in at least one departmental or community education in-service annually.
