About Us:

We are a dedicated law firm specializing in assisting individuals and the families of deceased individuals with claims to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) and the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP). We provide legal guidance and support to survivors, first responders, and other affected groups in navigating the complexities of these programs. Our firm is seeking a Paralegal to play a critical role in supporting attorneys and managing large caseloads of clients with similar claims.


Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced paralegal to join our VCF practice group. The paralegal will assist attorneys in managing and coordinating multiple VCF cases, maintaining case files, conducting legal research, and supporting the claims submission process. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, fluent in both English and Spanish and prior experience in VCF, mass torts or personal injury claims. This is a full-time and on-site role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Assist in managing a large caseload of clients involved in VCF claims submissions, tracking case progress, and ensuring all necessary documents and information are provided to meet VCF requirements and deadlines.
  • Client Communication: Serve as a point of contact for clients, gathering necessary documentation, answering questions, and providing case updates.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and prepare legal documents as needed including collecting and organizing relevant documentation from clients such as, medical records, witness presence statements, attestations, and other supporting documents for VCF claims.
  • Claim Prep: Submit the enrollment application to the WTCHP and prepare claim forms, ensuring accuracy before submission to the VCF.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research relevant to VCF, including verifying information for eligibility and compensation determinations.
  • Database Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records using case management software Smart Advocate.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with legal ethics, VCF policies and procedures, and firm policies throughout the claim process.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field, or certification from an ABA-approved paralegal program.
  • Experience: 2+ years of paralegal experience working with VCF or mass torts claims.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to clients.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in using case management software, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research tools.
  • Empathy and Sensitivity: Ability to handle sensitive cases with compassion, especially those related to serious health conditions and loss of loved ones.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Spanish speaking strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, requesting medical records and review.
  • Experience with claim preparation, submission, and follow-up.
