Service Manager
Primarily responsible for providing a managerial presence on the restaurant floor during service. The Service Manager will support the FOH management team to ensure FOH line staff perform as required to create an enjoyable, casual dining experience for guests while maintaining high standards of service.
This position also requires a candidate with an excellent knowledge of wine and wine service.
The Service Manager will also assist the General Manager with the administration of day-to-day operations of the restaurant, including implementing and ensuring adherence to company policies and completing special projects.
Expectation of the Service Manager

- Possesses a NYC DOH food handler’s certificate
- Able to work a flexible schedule and holidays
- Ability to pay attention to detail, manage multiple tasks at once, and show an elevated level of patience.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Annually reviews and makes recommendations to Executive Management for improvement of restaurant policies, procedures, and practices on matters of day-to-day operations, service standards, and FOH line staffing
- Maintains knowledge of industry trends and thorough knowledge of all service-related items
- Recommends, evaluates, and participates in Staff Development, including assisting with the development of training manuals, training processes, and continuing education for all departments
- Assists in the development, coordination, and conducting of training- both at onboarding and continuingly- of all FOH staff for service-related manners
- Works the floor during service ensuring a pleasant dining environment and experience for guests, and opens & closes the restaurant including ensuring cash drops are accurate and writing nighty recaps
- Schedules, or assists in scheduling, FOH staff
- Responsible for ordering FOH products, as directed
- Works with the General Manager to ensure all FOH staff is trained to identify known influential food critics, food bloggers, chefs, frequent diners, and all other VIPs.
- Performs, with assistance from the General Manager and/or Human Resources Department, post-introductory period, and annual performance reviews of direct reports, if applicable
- Evaluate and identifies areas of potential improvement in the development of the staff- for training manuals, training processes, and continuing education- and communicate recommendations to the General Manager
- Recruiting and hiring of direct reports to maintain appropriate staffing levels, as necessary
- Assists the General Manager to ensure all applicable FOH managers, bartenders, and servers are TIPS certified within the first month of employment
- Attends and participates in the weekly management team and daily pre-shift meetings
- Oversee maintenance/cleanliness of restaurant floor including dining rooms, restrooms, service stations, managers’ office, and storage closet room
- Performs daily walkthrough of the restaurant to determine areas that need attention or repair
- Additional duties may be added as necessary by the Chef/Owner and/ or the General Manager.
Learning Requirement
- We require you to hold the Food Protection certification from NYC DOH, if you are already certified please bring in your certification for our records. If not, we ask that you enroll and take this course in the first 30 days of employment. Please let us know if you already have this.
