Job Summary: The Quality Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring the production of high-quality products through effective administration of product/process quality, inspection, and testing controls in compliance with ASME code for pressure vessels and ISO9001 quality system requirements. This hands-on position primarily involves executing quality control inspection activities on products/processes, including regulatory compliance with ASME, enforcing policies or guidelines for quality acceptance criteria, specifications, requirements, standards, etc., and utilizing process outputs to identify areas of improvement to support the department’s performance and cost-reduction initiatives. This role requires maintaining a positive and productive cross-functional partnership with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales departments, and ASME relevant authorities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities of products and processes, ensuring product compliance is maintained, documented, and recorded as per QMS requirements. Ensure products meet regulatory and customer specifications and requirements prior to shipment.
- Conduct and/or coordinate successful and timely completion of applicable ASME product testing requirements through internal or external sources and effectively report results.
- Document and consolidate product verification and validation reports/records for the master file per ASME/QMS requirements and, where applicable, attain corresponding sign-off from the designated Authorized Inspector (A.I.).
- Verify product drawings and specifications in compliance with ASME requirements and, where applicable, attain corresponding sign-off from the designated Authorized Inspector (A.I.).
- Own the overall ASME Welder training/certification program.
- Stay informed and up to date about ASME code updates or changes to the standards and update all relevant internal documentation.
- Conduct periodic evaluations of manufacturing processes to ensure Quality Standards and applicable regulation requirements (ASME) are effectively implemented and maintained.
- Evaluate inspection methods, protocols, tools, mechanisms, and equipment periodically to assess their effectiveness and identify areas of improvement as part of cost reduction efforts.
- As the process owner for Control of Non-conforming product (NCP), lead the overall NCP reaction plan, including investigation, risk assessment, and tracking and reporting trends, actions, and results related to product disposition.
- Participate in the internal and external audit program (ASME, QMS, suppliers, customers) for continuous accreditation and compliance.
- Participate in the Customer Complaint and Root Cause Analysis review/investigation process as requested.
- Participate in programs, projects, or initiatives related to the correction, prevention, and/or improvement of product or process quality.
- Assist with tracking and reporting product/process data and generating monthly performance reports (KPIs) to the Director of Quality.
- Maintain work area in a clean and safe manner.
- Domestic travel = 5%.
- Observe all safety precautions, rules, and regulations. Comply with and help enforce standard policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a current CWI – Certified Welder Inspector accreditation. Additionally, must complete ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design & Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training within six months from the start of employment.
Education and Experience:
- GED and/or equivalent technical discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, etc., and/or 5-8 years of hands-on/applied strong working knowledge in manufacturing environments regulated by ASME code for Pressure Vessels or similar.
- Demonstrated and solid experience (5-8 years) performing quality control roles and duties.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and reviewing engineering drawings and GD&T, understanding the application of engineering mechanical protocols and regulations, engineering calculations, and specifications.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Visio, etc.).
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and responsibilities and working independently with minimum supervision.
- Essential knowledge and/or experience with quality systems documentation.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and technical problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Able to effectively work with various functions and levels in the organization, with the ability to positively influence others.
- Team player-minded, communicative, proactive, stress-resistant, assertive.
- Bilingual (English & Spanish a plus).
Physical Demands:
- This position requires moderate lifting and walking. Annual eye exams are also required and are covered by the company.
Work Environment:
- This position involves spending all time in the plant with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environments. Other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 20 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs, and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor. Exposure to sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer is minimal.
