Position : Infection Preventionist
Location : New York, NY.
Duration : 3 months contract with extension possibilities.
Shift : 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
Pay - $80/hr
Job Duties:
- Infection Preventionists will work with the IPC department Infection Preventionists to oversee infection prevention and control in all units and departments that comprise this 844-bed hospital. Review patient charts for evidence of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) and apply National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) definitions to identify and report HAIs through the use of an electronic surveillance system.
- Assist with investigations of clusters of infections, outbreaks, and unusual infections or exposures as they arise.
- Review daily microbiology and virology reports for culture results that may reveal multi-drug-resistant organisms, transmissible diseases, or HAIs.
- Use these results to identify and place patients in the appropriate category of precautions.
- Perform HAI surveillance, ensure compliance, and report cases to the NYCDOH.
- Will be assigned surveillance activities to identify central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonias, and surgical site infections.
- Perform infection prevention rounds on assigned units to ensure a safe environment of care.
Experience Required:
Two (2) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience working in infection prevention and control, health care epidemiology or a related field in a hospital or a health care setting.
Education/Certification:
Holds Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC);
Minimum degree: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related discipline.
