About Our Client: Our client is a Florida non-profit pro bono law firm dedicated to providing legal representation to under-served residents of Broward County who have experienced violations of their housing and civil rights. This includes handling significant class action lawsuits that can have wide-ranging impacts at national, state, or local levels. As a paralegal, you will support the managing attorney by drafting legal documents, organizing case files, and preparing for trials and hearings. Additionally, you will conduct intake and outreach, and participate in special legal and community projects, ensuring that low-income communities receive high-quality legal assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft legal documents including routine pleadings, affidavits, and interrogatories; file motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
- Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, including evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.
- Conduct client interviews and prepare summaries of their statements.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including attending trials and hearings.
- Conduct intake and outreach, and participate in special legal and community projects.
- Develop and maintain records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in complex litigation.
- Demonstrable awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the populations we serve.
- Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally in a highly stressful environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, or related software.
- Ability to speak more than one language is a plus.
- Willingness to occasionally work beyond a minimum seven-hour workday, including evenings and weekends.
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary range of $45,000 to $50,000, negotiable based on skills and experience.
