Job Title: Database Administrator 2

Work Environment: Hybrid (2 days onsite in Lansing, MI; 3 days remote)


Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in SQL Server to join our team. This position is critical to ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our database systems. The DBA will provide infrastructure support for all SQL Server applications, maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) environments, and enforce database standards to support complex applications across multiple systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in SQL Server administration, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external consultants.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 support for SQL Server applications, ensuring maximum uptime and performance.
  • Develop and execute installation, patch management, maintenance, and upgrade plans for SQL Server systems.
  • Evaluate the impact of system changes and recommend solutions for persistent issues.
  • Manage high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions to ensure data security and business continuity.
  • Implement and manage Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) within SQL Server environments.
  • Draft and maintain comprehensive system documentation to align with organizational policies and standards.
  • Monitor and optimize database space allocation and performance across test, development, and production environments.
  • Configure and execute database integrity checks, ensuring system stability.
  • Troubleshoot database connectivity issues and backup errors, ensuring data recoverability.
  • Install, update, and maintain database management software, patches, and service packs in development and test environments.
  • Monitor database replication, clustering, and scheduled processes for optimal functionality.
  • Execute scripts for creating and modifying database objects (e.g., tables, views, indexes) as provided by database architects or system analysts.


Qualifications:


Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of database administration experience, specifically with SQL Server 2016 or newer.
  • 3+ years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining systems documentation.
  • Proven expertise in high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) in SQL Server.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in SQL Server performance tuning, backup/restore processes, and monitoring tools.
  • Strong knowledge of database security practices, space allocation, and system optimization.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve database issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with clustered environments and database replication.


Soft Skills:
