General Summary:
The Fabrication Technician plans, layouts, assembles installs, and repairs sheet metal and machined parts, equipment, and products. *This is a Contingent position with our company (1-year or longer)*
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal products and equipment.
- Layouts and marks dimensions and reference lines on material using scribers, dividers, squares, and rulers.
- Sets up and operates fabrication machines, such as CNC press break, CNC router table, CNC tube bender, bladder press, shrinking and stretching machines and power roller.
- Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form using hand tools.
- Trims, files, grinds, deburr, buffs, and smooth's surfaces using hand tools and portable power tools.
- Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products, using hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints, using hand tools, power tools, and lifting and handling devises.
- Able to pull models up in CATIA to flatten them out and create DXF files for the press break and router table.
- Able to operate the heat-treating furnace and oven.
- Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, scales, dial indicators, gauges, micrometers and Faro Arm.
- Flexibility to work various schedules and open to overtime.
Education, Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
- High School degree or equivalent required.
- Associate or trade school degree in welding and sheet metals or equivalent education strongly preferred.
- Aircraft experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or production specifications.
- Strong oral and written communications.
- Strong knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques.
- Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance.
- Strong sheet metal skills required.
- Strong welding skills preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes) preferably.
- Experience with Team Center and CATIA.
- Knowledge of heat-treating aluminum alloys.
Physical Requirements:
- Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
- Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
