The Maintenance Mechanic installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs machinery, process equipment, utilities equipment, process & facility physical structures, motors, pumps, pipe & piping components within AMVAC’s Axis manufacturing plant that operates 24x7x365.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identifies hazards and protects you, other employees, and the facility from hazards when installing, maintaining and repairing systems
- Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as required by law and company policy
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and process equipment
- Disassembles pumps, agitators, gearboxes, heat exchangers, and large process equipment to repair or install new parts to maintain equipment in a functional state
- Disassembles valves, gages, piping, pumps and other process subassemblies to install new or repaired parts
- Operates manlift and assorted hand tools including grinders, drill motors, power hack & band saws, pipe threader and torches to fabricate or repair process components and buildings
- Uses diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot agitators, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment to detect malfunctions or pending failures
- Discusses machine operations with supervisors and other maintenance staff in formulating a maintenance or repair plan
- Cleans, lubricates, and replaces shafts, bearings, gears, mechanical seals, and other parts of machinery
- Reads, interprets, and executes procedures related to calibration checks & adjustments of equipment including weigh scales, flow meters, and instruments
- Repairs and adjusts mechanical packaging equipment in a clean room environment
- Complies and ensures compliance with all regulatory safety and environmental requirements and follows all company policies, practices and lawful directives
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Vocational training (minimum 1 year) / Technical degree preferred
- Safety courses; OSHA; Hazwoper training desired
- AIDT Training a plus
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years Industrial experience in a manufacturing facility (chemical manufacturing preferred)
- Read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Effective communication with other employees verbally and in writing; write routine reports
- Experience using dial indicators, vernier calipers, micrometers and other precision instruments used in millwright work
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repair of centrifugal pumps (Durco, Goulds, etc.)
- Experience with glass-lined equipment including torque methods & specifications, gasket requirements and glass repair methods and mechanical seal replacement on glass lined vessels highly desired
- Ability to read and work from prints and diagrams
- Regularly lift 30 lbs.; safely lift and transport items over 70 pounds
- Be able to work nights and weekends as job duties demand
- Must pass post-offer physical, background checks and other appropriate tests as required
Other skills:
- Troubleshoot and repair of diaphragm pumps; complete full rebuild if required
- Minor repairs of mag style pumps including impeller and bearing replacement
- Troubleshoot and repair heat exchangers; change gaskets, determine tube leaks and plug damaged tubes
