Job Description

Payroll Analyst

Role Type: Contract-to-hire, with a six-month evaluation period.

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana,


Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee payroll processing for approximately 3,000 employees (2,200 hourly and 800 salaried).
  • Ensure compliance with payroll policies, including shift differentials, punch rounding, and labor allocations.
  • Perform payroll accounting tasks, including journal entries, month-end close activities, and balancing payroll inputs/outputs.
  • Collaborate with plant-level payroll admins to ensure accurate time and attendance reporting.
  • Manage exceptions such as tuition payments, badge deductions, and manual overrides.
  • Work with multiple systems: UKG Dimensions (timekeeping), Workday (HR/payroll processing), and SAP (financials).

Key Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in payroll, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with UKG Dimensions, Workday, and SAP.
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, compliance, and internal controls (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley).
  • Proven ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines, especially during holidays.
  • Analytical skills to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies or system issues.

Certifications:

  • Preferred: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Functional Payroll (CFP).

Technical Knowledge:

  • Understanding of shift differentials, punch rounding, and labor allocations.
  • Experience with internal controls and compliance, including Department of Labor standards.

Soft Skills:

  • Highly motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with HR, plant admins, and corporate payroll teams.
  • Analytical mindset for troubleshooting payroll issues and evaluating system processes.

Immediate Priorities for New Hire:

  • Learn Delta’s payroll policies and processes, including systems (UKG Dimensions, Workday, SAP).
  • Familiarize with manufacturing-specific payroll requirements and holiday schedules.
  • Gain understanding of internal controls and compliance measures related to payroll.
  • Assist with labor category setups and resolve payroll errors as needed.
