The goal of adding this position to the lighting design job family is to provide more focused technical support to project lighting designers. This position is ideally suited to technically-oriented individuals who are interested in mainly focusing on the documentation and analysis parts of the lighting design process. This role could be seen in some ways as being the lighting design equivalent of a job captain, and is also meant to provide a more efficient means of ensuring high quality documentation, as opposed to distributing technical tasks and responsibilities among our pool of senior lighting designers, which has not proven to be cost-effective.

Summary of Position

• Working with lighting designers and Senior Dir. of Lighting Design, the Lighting Applications Specialist provides technical support to the lighting design team throughout all project phases.
• The position will be a hybrid role and can be located in SF Bay Area, Silicon Valley, LA, or SoCal

Education

• Graduate of architecture or design school: equivalent experience may be substituted.

Work Experience

• 3+ years’ experience or equivalent educational experience: architectural lighting design, 3D design / visualization.

Leadership

• Works under the leadership of the project lighting designer, may lead certain technical assistance efforts directly with interior design teams throughout the firm.

Design/Technical Abilities

• Intermediate knowledge of the lighting industry
• Intermediate knowledge of working drawings and procedures
• Intermediate knowledge of photometric calculations
• Intermediate sense of architectural lighting and knowledge of the properties and measurement of light
• Intermediate knowledge of lighting products.

Systems Knowledge

• Intermediate MS Office Suite skills
• Intermediate Revit skills
• Advanced Lighting calc skills (AGI32, Elumtools, or sim.)

Communication Skills

• Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
• Basic presentation and graphic communication skills.

Managerial Skills

• Proven ability to work collaboratively
• Demonstrated ability to work with and educate staff through subject matter expertise

Design/Technical Drawing

• Develops lighting fixture layouts, Prepares lighting specification packages, lighting renderings and calculations.

Mentoring

• Assists in educating design and technical staff throughout the firm on technical lighting issues.

Client Services

• Supports the team in collecting information for client assessment; may attend interviews; provide documentation support as needed; report on results of validating calculations
