Technical Project Manager – Retail Systems & POS Modernization
Job Overview:
Are you a seasoned Technical Project Manager with a passion for retail operations and technology? Do you have experience leading high-impact Point of Sale (POS) upgrade projects in national retail chains? We’re seeking an experienced professional to spearhead a critical POS modernization initiative for a well-established retail brand.
Project Management
- Lead the end-to-end execution of a large-scale POS system upgrade, particularly with Oracle Xstore , or similar systems such as NCR or Verifone .
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope , objectives , timelines , and budgets —ensuring project milestones are achieved and risks are effectively managed.
- Ensure the successful delivery of the project with quality outcomes aligned to business goals and technical standards.
Retail & POS Expertise
- Leverage your deep understanding of retail operations to tailor POS upgrades that enhance store-level processes and improve the customer experience .
- Collaborate with retail staff and IT teams to drive seamless system integration and successful user adoption across the organization.
- Oversee testing, training, and rollout strategies , ensuring smooth implementation across all stores within the national chain.
Vendor & Third-Party Management
- Manage critical vendor relationships and collaborate with third-party providers and implementation partners to ensure project success.
- Lead contract negotiations , oversee deliverables, and resolve escalations efficiently.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and project timelines.
Dashboard Reporting & Insights
- Use Power BI to create and maintain dashboards that offer visibility into project status , budget performance , and key performance indicators (KPIs) .
- Provide regular project updates and actionable insights to executive leadership and stakeholders, helping them make data-driven decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders , translating complex technical details into clear, business-relevant insights.
- Work in close partnership with IT , operations , finance , and store management teams to ensure alignment and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in POS system implementation or upgrades, specifically with systems such as Oracle Xstore, NCR, or Verifone.
- Strong background in retail operations, particularly within national chains or multi-store environments, with the ability to understand and optimize store-level processes.
- Expertise in vendor and third-party management , including contract negotiation, performance monitoring, and escalation management.
- Proficiency in Power BI (or similar data visualization tools) to create dashboards and report on key project metrics.
- Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with agile methodologies and tools like JIRA or Trello.
- Strong experience in budget management and financial reporting for large-scale projects.
- Knowledge of broader retail technologies beyond POS, such as inventory management systems or customer loyalty platforms.
