We are looking for someone passionate about communication and marketing with the ability to anticipate and execute communication strategy and deliver for a fast paced animal welfare non profit. The desired candidate will also roll up their sleeves to write accurate engagement content on deadline with the right tone that is on brand with message alignment. The communications coordinator will use their judgment to write talking points, anticipate needs, lead events, write social content, collaborate across orgs and be the person our team needs for all communication and marketing needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program that will enhance Houston PetSet’s image and position within the community.
- Website Maintenance: Update website content, including text, images, and multimedia, ensuring all information is accurate and current.
- Social Media: Create yearly plan as well as posting, maintaining, and addressing comments on our social media accounts
- Oversee and grow HPS’s presence across social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).
- Lead the drive to grow Houston PetSet’s presence with leaders and supporters through communications and media
- Serve as the public relations thought leader for the agency, setting and driving PR strategy in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. You’ll operate in both a lead and support role to ensure flawless execution.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local, regional and national media. Secure strategic earned media coverage to support the organization’s goals.
- Use PR monitoring and analytics tools to track performance, identify trends and craft detailed reports that demonstrate measurable success for our organization.
- Spearhead the creation of high-quality content – from press releases and opinion pieces to blogs and social media – to resonate with target audiences and donors.
- Oversee the development, design, distribution, and maintenance of high-quality print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to brochures, presentation materials, appeal letters, mass email communication and newsletters.
- Responsible for Foundation brand management and compliance ensuring that brand identity, messaging, and marketing and communications strategy are infused in all Houston PetSet efforts.
Requirements
- You must be local to the Houston area to support Houston PetSet
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations or related field is preferred, equivalent job experience will be considered
- Graphic design experience is preferred
- Must have transportation and availability to work nights and weekends as needed to support the organization’s events
- Expertise in Canva and other creative tools
- Proven computer skills with an emphasis in areas of website administration and social media
- Basic knowledge of video editing is a plus
- Excellent reading, writing, research and editing skills with impeccable attention to detail.
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of marketing and communications plans, brand management and compliance, design and production of online and print materials, implementation of successful digital and social marketing campaigns.
- Excellent communication skills required, both verbally and in writing, with strong customer service orientation. Must have ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of constituents
- Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with a high degree of professionalism.
